As a staff geotechnical engineer in our Boise office, Jacob balances hands-on fieldwork with analytical problem-solving. “My day typically consists of going to the field to take soil samples and collect data, and going back to the office to run calculations or write reports,” he explains. His work helps provide clients with a clear understanding of site conditions and supports sound engineering decisions.
Before joining GeoEngineers, Jacob spent five years working for a heavy civil earthwork contractor, where he focused on estimating and planning how to build subdivisions, roads, slopes, and dams. That experience gave him practical insight into construction challenges—a perspective he now brings to geotechnical consulting.
Jacob is especially interested in developing a well-rounded approach to engineering. “Flexibility and diversity… create the most well-rounded consultant,” he says, and he’s motivated to grow his skills across a wide range of geotechnical areas.
His long-term goal is clear, “I want a lengthy career at GeoEngineers. I want ultimate mastery over as many geotechnical areas of expertise as I can.”
His passion for the field started young. “I’ve always played in the dirt since I was a kid,” Jacob says. Inspired by his dad’s work in construction, he saw early on how his childhood curiosity could become a career.
When he’s not working, Jacob enjoys hiking, camping, and road trips—especially when he’s joined by his wife and young daughter.
