Public Utility District No. 1 of Skagit County (Wash.) has selected GeoEngineers to implement a software solution to improve the District’s ability to efficiently manage its infrastructure assets. According to the District, Skagit County PUD No. 1 operates the most expansive water system in Skagit County, with over 22,400 metered services, serving approximately 65,000 people an average of nine million gallons of water per day.
GeoEngineers will lead the project team, whose partners include the Timmons Group, which develops geographic information system (GIS)-based technology solutions for state and local governments, and Azteca Systems, Inc., developer of the Cityworks software suite that provides GIS-centric asset management as well as permitting and licensing solutions. The Timmons Group will assist GeoEngineers with the implementation of Cityworks and its integration with the District’s financial and utility billing software.
GeoEngineers will use its proven data-development methodologies to migrate the District’s existing infrastructure asset data from AutoCAD Map 3D to a highly reliable enterprise GIS geodatabase that will better support the District’s long-term asset management activities. The project team will design this geodatabase to be used with Cityworks and other District systems. The resulting solution will enable Skagit PUD staff in the office and in the field to manage infrastructure, issue service requests, create work orders, track inspections and create reports.
Darrin Farmer, GeoEngineers Associate and Geospatial and Infrastructure Group Leader, commented that the project, which kicked off in late May, offers an exciting opportunity for GeoEngineers and its project partners. “GeoEngineers has provided a wide range of services to Skagit PUD since 1995. We are excited to continue adding value by assisting them with this important project.”
