Congratulations to Intisar Ahmed, who has been recognized as the 2026 Young Engineer of the Year by the ASCE Seattle Section!
The award honors early-career engineers who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement, leadership, and service to the engineering community. Since joining GeoEngineers in 2024, Intisar has made an impact not only through his project work, but also through his dedication to advancing the profession and supporting the next generation of engineers.
“I was very pleased to learn that I was selected this year as Young Engineer of the Year. In Seattle, there are so many great civil engineers who volunteer tirelessly to advance the local industry. It’s great to be a part of that,” says Intisar.
An engaged volunteer with ASCE, Intisar currently serves as Professional Development Chair for the Seattle Younger Members Forum, Dinner Meeting Chair for the ASCE Seattle Section Geo-Institute, and the Chair of the national Geo-Institute Younger Members Committee. In that national role, he has helped expand committee membership, organize technical sessions and professional development webinars, and strengthen connections with peer organizations across the country. He also serves as GeoEngineers’ representative to the Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA) and contributes to the GBA’s Inclusion Advancement Committee.
Intisar also supports his professional colleagues through mentorship, and encourages others to do the same. He regularly mentors GeoEngineers staff and has spent the past seven years guiding students through the University of British Columbia’s engineering mentorship program. He also volunteers with K–12 outreach programs through the ASCE Seattle Section, helping introduce young people to careers in engineering.
In addition to his professional and volunteer leadership, Intisar has helped introduce new technologies and workflows at GeoEngineers, including advancing the use of digital geotechnical logging tools and exploring practical applications of artificial intelligence to support geotechnical engineering.
