The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Spokane Chapter recognized recently retired Senior Principal Jim Harakas’ career by presenting him with the chapter’s Distinguished Career Award. The award is a unique honor — Jim is only the third recipient of this career recognition from the ASCE Spokane Chapter.
Jim humbly accepted the award and took the opportunity to reflect on his 41-year career. Looking back, Jim said he felt like he’d been “in school for the last 41 years,” learning new things every day. Jim takes great satisfaction in the success of the many young engineers and professionals he mentored throughout his career. He encouraged young professionals to have a passion for learning and their daily work.
Jim was influential both in the Spokane community and within GeoEngineers. Since joining GeoEngineers in 1991, he encouraged the firm to broaden its perspective beyond the Puget Sound and led efforts to expand into new markets in Eastern Washington and beyond.
