David is a Senior Field Technician in GeoEngineers’ Portland office, where he serves as the on-site eyes and ears for project engineers. He monitors geotechnical construction activities, conducts field tests, and documents site conditions to ensure contractors meet the standards GeoEngineers promises its clients.
David brings a strong technical foundation to his fieldwork, supported by a geology degree with an emphasis in geophysics. He also taught high school physics, an experience that strengthened his ability to communicate clearly with contractors and project teams. “I believe my communication skills which have reached new heights since being a teacher will significantly help me do my job better,” he explains. His curiosity and instinct for understanding the physics behind real-world challenges help him deliver confident and informed observations in the field.
His path to geotechnical work is rooted in a desire to support responsible growth and environmental stewardship. David enjoys contributing to projects that make communities safer and more resilient, and values the opportunity to witness those positive changes up close.
David began his career with GeoEngineers as a Field Technician before gaining additional experience as a concrete inspector, substitute physics teacher, and environmental scientist contracted with the EPA on Superfund assessments and emergency response efforts. He returned to GeoEngineers in a senior role with a broader perspective and a deepened passion for fieldwork.
Looking ahead, David hopes to keep learning, developing professionally, and eventually bringing his geotechnical expertise to support infrastructure projects in developing countries.
Outside of work, David can most often be found on his bike. He volunteers at a local bike co-op and loves long-distance rides—recently cycling across Oregon from his home to Klamath Falls. He also enjoys rock climbing, skiing, hacky sacking with friends, and spending time outdoors exploring good food and great views.
