Staff Geotechnical Engineer

As a geotechnical engineer, I explore what is beneath the ground. As the famous Forrest Gump quote goes, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.’ This describes every day as a geotechnical engineer. Subsurface conditions are full of surprises that make our work exciting.

As a staff geotechnical engineer and member of GeoEngineers’ Boston development team, John is on the front lines of many of our most exciting downtown projects. He splits his time between preparing geotechnical reports and recommendations in the office and representing GeoEngineers in the field, where he investigates soil conditions, interfaces with contractors and teaming partners, and helps senior engineers keep tabs on daily site activities and construction.

“The ability to help the world around us grow in an environmentally friendly manner attracted me to this industry,” John says. “I wanted to be a part of advancing society and its infrastructure in a sustainable way.”

John joined GeoEngineers in 2023, shortly after graduating with a civil engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He began developing practical field experience even before graduation, thanks to several student internships. John’s time at Tighe & Bond introduced him to construction observation for a variety of municipal transportation and development projects, and eventually, these field experiences led John toward geotechnical engineering.

“The summer before graduation I worked for Langan in Boston as a geotechnical engineer intern,” John says. “I helped with subsurface investigations, construction observation, and report preparation. I really enjoyed this work and felt like I found my niche in the industry.”

In his free time, John likes to stay active and explore the outdoors. He enjoys golfing, fishing, trying new restaurants and breweries, and exploring New England’s many skiing destinations during the winter.

We want you on our team.
